ASA 5506-X – Adding FirePOWER Licenses

A quick post on how to add licenses to your FirePOWER module on the Cisco ASA 5506-X, the process would be similar using the FireSIGHT Manager.

The things we need before starting are:

  • CCO ID to login to the Cisco Licensing Portal
  • Adaptive Security Manager (ASDM) Access to your 5506-X
  • Product Authorization Key (PAK)

The first thing we need to do is grab the License Key of our FirePOWER module, which can be done by accessing the ASDM. Once you have logged in go to: configuration > ASA FirePOWER Configuration > Licenses > Add New License

You will see a window similar to the one below:

Once you have the license key, open up the *.lic file in a text editor such as notepad++, copy all the information between the tags:

--- BEGIN SourceFire Product License :

TEXT TO COPY IS HERE

--- END SourceFire Product License ---

Then copy this into the ASDM Portal as shown in the previous figure, you will need to select Submit License

You will need to follow the same process for all the licenses you obtain from Cisco. Finally your licensing portal on the ASDM will show you the current licenses you have and their subscription end dates as shown with the figure below, remember this is only for the FirePOWER Module:
