There may be a time, when you are required to locate an access point physically at a site. However the access point is out of reach and has not been labelled. So what can you do?
Well the Cisco Wireless LAN Controller allows you to make the LED flash on the AP, so you can locate it. To do this, you must SSH into the controller that has the AP registered to it.
Recently I was required to upgrade a Cisco WLC from an older version of code 22.214.171.124 to the latest 126.96.36.199 ED code base, so that the client could leverage the newer feature sets offered. However the challenge was that the client had close to 100 APs all registered to one WLC 5508 controller over multiple sites and the maintenance window for the outage could be no longer 1 hour.
